Three moments of the weekend

1. Justice Cafe at the JLYS.

2. The closing celebrations of the 2010 Olympics.
Canadian Men's Hockey Team winning gold, bringing us to a total of 14 gold wins- 'owning the gold podium.'

3.Lately, I've been backwatching 'The Big Bang Theory,' and today I really enjoyed the funny Wil Wheaton as a guest star.

olympic update

CAN vs. USA men's hockey=10.6 million viewers=the most watched television event in Canadian history
And I was one of those millions. Me, the non-sports fan. Well, I guess if for nothing else, I can say that the experience made me part of a historic event.
But...is this really our game if we lost 5-3?

On a much happier note:Ice Dancing!!
The Americans Meryl Davis and Charlie White did a beautiful routine to Andrew Lloyd Webber's Phantom of the Opera. But Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir, took ice dancing olympic gold with a melting performance.
This reminded me of a moment when I was a child and I saw the first time a world-class female athlete did a complete back flip successfully on the ice in competition. A black woman. It struck me so much, like I was witnessing history.
I felt similarly today when Ashleigh McIvor won gold in the women's ski cross event. It was the debut of the sport in the olympics, and our Canadian won gold!

But my favourite olympic moment so far, has been the strolling, beer-chugging celebration by gold-winnig John Montgommery

such a girl

This is a movie I've been thinking about wanting to watch with my boyfriend for a while now. I'm not such a huge fan of a romantic movies. But every little once in a while, I do enjoy an indulgence.

The only other romance I've seen with the boy... the notebook.

beautiful performance

This is my latest glimpse of beauty: Seema Biswas, playing the character Shakuntala, a devote and faithful Hindu widow living in the poverty of an ashram in late 1930s India in the Deepa Mehta film, "Water." This beautiful character is strong, emotional, deep, compassionate, and seems to be continually searching and growing. What a joy to get to know this character through this film.

Sarala Kariyawasam also gave a fantastic portrayal of her character, a child widow, Chuyia.

olympics!!!

I've watched more sports than probably ever before, with this 2010 Winter Olympics. It brings me some pride that we in Canada are able to host it. And way to go on our first gold-in-country!!

ncis

getting back into an old season...
I love the distraction of media.
But I recognize its potential pitfalls, and try not to build too much avoidance into my life.
Still, a little escapism every now and then can't be all bad.

candles

My wonderful boyfriend has a smelly apartment--smokey from his upstairs neighbours.
I can't stand the smell of cigarette smoke, so we burn pretty-smelling candles whenever we hang out there...

I think that it is a little beautiful that we can still enjoy being together with the candles attempting to mask the nasty smell. oh dear-makes me laugh.

too many silly cartoons

I'm sure others have seen the similarity:
It just struck me so poignantly that I can't help but comment.

murder mystery

The most fun I've had at a birthday party in a long, long time - hosting a murder mystery dinner. Agatha Christie's have been my favourite for a very long time. And when my little sister got a 'host your own murder' kit at a white elephant gift exchange, I thought it might be interesting to try out. So I did: I sent out official invitations, gave everyone their characters, organized an entire menu, made home-made pies and a 'wild boar' dish with apples (which was actually pork), organized full living and dining room decor with candles, props, and books, dressed up in an outrageous costume, and facilitated the different acts, with a map, an audio tape, 7 secret clues, and 8 personal dossiers with individualized instructions. I loved it!

And the best part... unwittingly to me until the final act, my character actually turned out to be the murderer. Mwahahahaha!
